Note: This is a 2-day workshop that runs Monday and Tuesday, July 31 & August 1, from 10:30am-12:30pm each day. Participants are expected to attend both sessions.
Join local artist Richard Howell for an intensive 2-day workshop about the history, meaning, and artistry of masks. We will explore art and performance traditions around the world, focusing on Africa, Brazil, and Cuba and paying special attention to the role of masks in coming-of-age ceremonies. Participants will then use recycled materials, paint, and other mixed media to create their own masks.
Ideal for youth ages 8-14.
Space is limited. Please call 617-445-4340, email Claire at cgross [at] bpl [dot] org, or visit the library to pre-register.
