Every American who believes in justice and dignity must come here.” - Ava DuVernay
In April, the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) opened the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and the Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration. The memorial honors 4,400 victims of lynching. The museum traces U.S. history from enslavement, through convict leasing, racial terrorism and Jim Crow, to mass incarceration. It shows how slavery did not end, but instead evolved, and interrogates the narratives of racial difference and white supremacy.
